Verb: เชื่อมั่น (chêua-mân)
Meaning: to have confidence in / to be confident in / to firmly believe / to have strong faith in
In this Thai lesson, we learn how to use the verb เชื่อมั่น (chêua-mân), which means ‘to have confidence in,’ ‘to be confident in,’ ‘to firmly believe,’ or ‘to have strong faith in.’ The key idea is strong, firm belief or confidence.
It made up of two words:
- เชื่อ (chêua) = to believe
- มั่น (mân) = is firm / is steady / is secured
Together, เชื่อมั่น (chêua-mân) means ‘to believe firmly,’ ‘to have confidence in,’ or ‘to be confident in.’
The typical structure usually follows the pattern: subject + เชื่อมั่น (chêua-mân).
It is often followed by the preposition ใน (nāi), meaning ‘in,’ to form a phrase เชื่อมั่นใน (chêua-mân nāi…). This structure is used to express strong confidence or belief in a person or thing, particularly when talking about believing in oneself, someone’s abilities, or someone’s potential — subject + เชื่อมั่นใน (chêua-mân nāi) + noun / person.
The verb เชื่อมั่น (chêua-mân) is also often followed by the complement marker ว่า (wâa) to introduce a belief, opinion, or proposition. The structure เชื่อมั่นว่า (chêua-mân wâa…) means ‘to firmly believe that…’ or ‘to be confident that…’, and is followed by a clause expressing what someone strongly believes — subject + เชื่อมั่นว่า (chêua-mân wâa) + clause.

ฉันเชื่อมั่นในตัวคุณ
chǎn chêua-mân nāi dtūa-khūn
Literal: I have confidence in body you.
I respect my teacher.
The intensive pronoun ตัวคุณ (dtūa-khūn) means ‘you yourself,’ ‘yourself,’ or ‘you as a person.’ It is particularly common when talking about someone’s identity, character, abilities, feelings, or personal qualities. The noun ตัว (dtūa) literally means ‘body’ or ‘physical body,’ but it can also refer to an individual person or the person themselves. It can be combined with other personal pronouns to form emphatic expressions that emphasise the person being referred to — ตัว (dtūa) + personal pronoun. For example: ตัวฉัน (dtūa chǎn = myself / me as a person); ตัวเขา (dtūa khǎo = himself / he herself / that person themselves); ตัวเธอ (dtūa thēr = she herself / her as a person), etc.
ฉันเชื่อมั่นในตัวเองมากขึ้น
chǎn chêua-mân nāi dtūa-āeng mâak-khêun
Literal: I have confidence in oneself much-increased.
I have more confidence in myself.
The reflexive pronoun ตัวเอง (dtūa-āeng) means ‘oneself,’ ‘yourself,’ ‘myself,’ ‘himself,’ ‘herself,’ ‘ourselves,’ or ‘themselves,’ depending on who it refers to. It is commonly used to refer back to the person already being talked about, so it often has a reflexive function — subject + verb + ตัวเอง (dtūa-āeng). For example: เขาต้องดูแลตัวเอง (khǎo dtâwng dūu-lāe dtūa-āeng = He has to look after himself.); ฉันต้องดูแลตัวเอง (chǎn dtâwng dūu-lāe dtūa-āeng = I have to take care of myself.); เธอเชื่อมั่นในตัวเอง (thēr chêua-mân nāi dtūa-āeng = She believes in herself.); etc.)
ฉันเชื่อมั่นว่าเขาจะประสบความสำเร็จ
chǎn chêua-mân wâa khǎo jà bprà-sòb khwāam-sǎm-hrèd
Literal: I firmly believe that he will encounter success.
I firmly believe that he will succeed.
The verb phrase ประสบความสำเร็จ (bprà-sòb khwāam-sǎm-hrèd) means ‘to succeed,’ ‘to be successful,’ or ‘to achieve success.’ It is often used when talking about achieving a goal, ambition, career, project, or desired result.
ฉันเชื่อมั่นว่าคุณทำได้
chǎn chêua-mân wâa khūn thām dâi
Literal: I firmly believe that you do can.
I firmly believe that you can do it.
The verb phrase ทำได้ (thām dâi) means ‘can do,’ ‘to be able to do,’ or ‘manage to do.’ It is used to express the ability or possibility of doing something.
