In this Thai lesson, we learn how to use the word คล่อง (k^hlâwng), which can be translated to ‘fluently,’ ‘proficiently,’ ‘skilfully,’ or ‘efficiently.’ It is used to describe someone who can do something easily, smoothly, confidently, and without hesitation. It emphasises ease and confidence, rather than simply having knowledge.

It is commonly used with languages, speaking, reading, writing, driving, using computers, or performing skills. It suggest that the person has developed confidence through practice and experience.

The typical structure usually follows the pattern: verb (+ noun) + คล่อง (k^hlâwng).

The verb ทำงาน (t^hām-ngāan) means ‘to work,’ ‘to do work,’ or ‘to be working.’ It describes the activity of doing a job, carrying out tasks, or being employed.

เธออ่านภาษาอังกฤษได้คล่อง

t^hēr àan p^hāa-sǎa àng-grìd dâi k^hlâwng
Literal: She read language English can fluently.
She reads English fluently.

The verb อ่าน (àan) means ‘to read.’ It describes the action of looking at and understanding written words, such as books, articles, messages, signs, or documents.

ผมยังพูดภาษาไทยได้ไม่คล่อง
