Many of my students first come to me already knowing quite a few Thai words. And that’s wonderful — it gives you a starting point. But often, they tell me they still can’t hold a conversation. That’s completely normal. Knowing words just the first step.
Learning Thai is like building a house. Vocabulary is your foundation — the words you know will support everything else. Grammar is the structure — it gives shape to your sentences and allows your words to connect. Conversation is the moment you move in — when your words and grammar come together to express yourself naturally.
At the beginning, focusing on vocabulary is key. Especially verbs — they’re the heart of every sentence. Once your word knowledge grows, grammar begins to make sense more easily, and you can start putting your knowledge into sentences. This is where real communication begins.
Many students also find it helpful to have lists of words and verbs easy to hand. Having a ready-to-use reference saves time searching through scattered notes or flipping between textbooks. It keeps learning focused and consistent and lets you practise more regularly. When your vocabulary is organised and accessible, you can spend more time using the words rather than hunting for them — which is exactly what helps your confidence and fluency grow faster.
My eBook Essential Thai Verbs for Beginners (Level A1) is designed to help you with the first step. It gives you the most useful everyday verbs, shows them in clear example sentences, and provides an easy-to-use reference so your learning is simple, structured, and practical.
The journey to speaking Thai doesn’t happen overnight, but every word you learn brings you closer to confidence and connection. Start small, stay consistent, and enjoy the process. Step by step, you’ll find your sentences forming, your confidence growing, and your Thai coming to life.
So today, take a small step. Learn a new verb, make a sentence, or simply say a word out loud. Every little action moves you forward. Have a wonderful day, and keep building your Thai — one word, one sentence, one step at a time.
