Daily Thai Confidence: Using ความคืบหน้า (khwāam-khêub-hnâa)

Noun: ความคืบหน้า (khwāam-khêub-hnâa)
Meaning: progress / development / advancement

In this Thai lesson, we learn how to use the abstract noun ความคืบหน้า (khwāam-khêub-hnâa), which means ‘progress,’ ‘development,’ or ‘advancement’. It refers to how much something has moved forward or improved, especially in a process, project, investigation, or situation.

The word ความคืบหน้า (khwāam-khêub-hnâa) is formed from three parts:

  • ความ (khwāam) — a prefix used to turn a verb or adjective into an abstract noun.
  • คืบ (khêub) — to move forward little by little or to advance gradually.
  • หน้า (hnâa) — forward, front, or face.

Together, ความคืบหน้า (khwāam-khêub-hnâa) literally refers to the state of moving forward, which is why it is used to mean progress in a specific process or task, often step-by-step.
