In this Thai lesson, we learn how to use the verb phrase มองโลกในแง่ดี (māwng lôok nāi ngâe dēe). It is an expression that means ‘to see the world positivity,’ ‘to be optimistic,’ or ‘to look on the bright side’. It is literally ‘to look at aspects in the world that is good. It describes someone who tends to focus on the good aspects of life or situations, even when challenges arise.

The typical structure usually follows the pattern: subject +มองโลกในแง่ดี (māwng lôok nāi ngâe dēe).

For examples (ตัวอย่างเช่น — dtūa-^awyàang chên)

t^hēr mák-jà māwng lôok nāi ngâe dēe sà-^hměuh
Literal: She usually look at world in aspect good always.
She always looks at the world in a positive light.

The auxiliary verb มักจะ (mák-jà) means ‘usually,’ ‘tend to,’ or ‘often’. It is used before a main verb to indicate that an action usually happens, tends to happen, or is habitual — มักจะ (mák-jà) + main verb.

t^hâa k^hūn p^há-yāa-yāam māwng lôok nāi ngâe dēe, mān jà chûay t^hām-hâi chēe-wíd k^hǎwng-k^hūn mēe k^hwāam-sùk mâak-k^hêun
Literal: If you try look at world in aspect good, it will help make-for life belonging to-you have happiness more.
If you try to look at the bright side, it will help make your life happier.

The verb พยายาม (p^há-yāa-yāam) means ‘to attempt,’ ‘to try,’ or ‘to make an effort’. It describes an action where someone puts in effort to achieve something, even if it might be difficult — พยายาม (p^há-yāa-yāam) + main verb.

k^hōn t^hêe māwng lôok nāi ngâe dēe mák-jà gâe bpān-hǎa dâi rēow mâak-k^hêun
Literal: People that look at world in aspect good usually solve problem can fast more.
People who are optimistic tend to solve problems more quickly.

The adverbial phrase มากขึ้น (mâak-k^hêun) means ‘more,’ ‘increased,’ or ‘to a greater extent’. It is used to indicate an increase in degree, quantity, or intensity compared to something else — verb / adjective + มากขึ้น (mâak-k^hêun). For example: เขาทำงานหนักมากขึ้นทุกวัน (k^hǎo t^hām-ngāan ^hnàk mâak-k^hêun t^húk wān = He works harder every day.); เราควรออกกำลังกายมากขึ้นเพื่อสุขภาพที่ดี (rāo k^hūan àwk-gām-lāng-gāai mâak-k^hêun p^hêua sùk-k^hà-p^hâab t^hêe dēe = We should exercise more for good health.), etc.

Literal: Try look at world in aspect good, then you will feel light more.
Try to look at the bright side, and you’ll feel lighter.

The verb ลอง (lāwng) means ‘to try,’ ‘to have a go at,’ or ‘to give something a try’. It is used when someone attempts an action to see what will happen or to see if something works. The word often suggests experimenting or trying something without strong pressure or expectation of success — ลอง (lāwng) + main verb.

2. Even though there are problems, she still remains optimistic.
3. He tries to stay optimistic even during difficult times.
