In this Thai lesson, we learn how to use the verb พื้นที่ส่วนตัว (p^héun-t^hêe sùan-dtūa), which means ‘personal space,’ ‘private space,’ or ‘personal boundaries.’ It refers to both physical space (around your body) and sometimes emotional or privacy space.

It made up of two words:

• พื้นที่ (p^héun-t^hêe) = area / space
• ส่วนตัว (sùan-dtūa) = personal / private

Together, พื้นที่ส่วนตัว (p^héun-t^hêe sùan-dtūa) means ‘personal or private space’. Think of it as ‘This space where others should not enter without permission.’

Literal: She should respect space personal belonging to-him.
You should respect his personal boundaries.

The verb เคารพ (k^hāo-rób) means ‘to respect,’ ‘to show respect,’ or ‘to honour.’ It is used when someone treats another person, rule, belief, or space with consideration, politeness, and recognition of importance.

การยืนใกล้เกินไปอาจละเมิดพื้นที่ส่วนตัว

gāan-yēun glâi gēun-bpāi àad lá-mêuhd p^héun-t^hêe sùan-dtūa
Literal: Action of standing near too much might violate space personal.
Standing too close may violate personal space.

The verb ละเมิด (lá-mêuhd) means ‘to violate,’ ‘to infringe,’ or ‘to break’ (rules/rights/law), or ‘to encroach’ on someone’s rights or privacy. It is used when someone crosses legal, moral, or personal boundaries in a serious way.

Literal: Obsessive fans usually cross the line space personal belonging to artists.
Sasaeng fans often cross celebrities’ personal space boundaries.

The noun ซาแซง (sāa-sāeng) means ‘obsessive fan,’ ‘intrusive fan who invade privacy,’ or ‘fan who cross boundaries.’ It is not just a ‘big fan, it implies obsession, lack of boundaries, private invasion, and sometimes dangerous behaviour.
